Following the decision by the Netherlands’ FA (KNVB) to declare the Eredivisie season null and void amid the coronavirus pandemic, a number of Rangers fans have called for the SPFL to follow suit.
As reported by Sky Sports, the Dutch top flight for 2019/20 has been scrapped without a champion declared and with no relegation from or promotion to the division.
Last week, the Scottish Championship, League One and League Two were ended early and prize money was paid out to clubs, albeit with teams promoted and relegated based on the most recent league tables (as per BBC). However, a decision has yet to be made regarding the conclusion of the Premiership, although the majority of Premiership clubs had voted earlier this month to end the season early.
A statement from UEFA on Thursday encouraged its member associations to complete their top-level domestic leagues and advocated the use of sporting merit to decide on which clubs would enter European competitions if league cannot be completed. That scenario would almost certainly ensure that Rangers, second in the Premiership and in the last 16 of the Europa League, would qualify for the latter tournament again next season.
These ‘Gers fans on Twitter called on the SPFL to follow the KNVB’s lead and void the current Premiership season:
So the Dutch do what everyone sensible calling the season early should do. Places stand for European competition, no champions, no promotion, no relegation. Not that difficult after all. Shows up the SPFL sham for what it is.

Been saying this for some time. I would even suggest clubs getting together and giving more money to those who should be promoted for staying put.

Way it should be, if it’s not won its void. In Scotland the focus should have been looking after the smaller clubs with even distribution of prize money and reconstruction to 3 x 18.
