It is believed the former Bologna centre-back has signed a four-year deal as The Daily Record claim he was purchased for a fee of around £3.5million.
The Sweden international immediately bolster’s Steven Gerrard’s options in defence as he joins the likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson in the Ibrox outfit’s backline.
The 26-year-old is just coming into his peak, and his 6ft 4in stature will help Rangers battle aerial threat from opposition attackers.
Helander was very impressive for Bologna in Serie A last season, as his stats from WhoScored make for encouraging reading. The Swede averaged 2.1 tackles per 90 mins and 0.7 interceptions in his 20 appearances.
If fans were not already excited by his arrival, his comments will have surely helped to get them onside.
Helander told Rangers’ official website: “I am delighted to be joining Rangers, it’s a special club with tremendous fans and a unique history.
“The opportunity to work with a manager like Steven Gerrard was an easy decision to make.”
Here are just some of the reactions to his arrival on Twitter…
I’m not going to lie and say I know him inside out but I’m excited by the Helander signing, international pedigree, comes quite highly-regarded, a good age, we’re doing great things!
