A lot of Rangers fans took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the performance of Steven Gerrard’s team on Wednesday night despite maintaining their recent winning streak.
Jermain Defoe’s 34th-minute goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox, a result which made it six straight wins in all competitions for the ‘Gers. However, on a night when top scorer Alfredo Morelos was suspended and captain James Tavernier ruled out through injury, it was far from plain sailing for the Light Blues.

Sky Sports reporter Charles Paterson felt that, in the absence of that duo, Rangers “lacked a creative spark throughout” as they “often struggled to carve open a stubborn visiting defence”. Indeed, Gerrard’s men perhaps ought to have won by more than the solitary goal as they had 17 shots to St Mirren’s one but only got five of their efforts on target.
In his Sky Sports match report, Paterson also noted how the visitors carved out some openings in the latter stages at Ibrox, where the home supporters “vented their frustrations at the lack of creative spark” as Rangers couldn’t manage to kill the game off as a contest before eventually sealing three points.
These ‘Gers fans on Twitter were far from impressed with what their team produced on Wednesday night:
Disgusting performance and attitude tonight. When St Mirren came at is they did it better than we did. Embarrassing team.

Ok yes 3 points is all good but that was shambolic no creativity whatsoever had plenty of chances to put it in the net and never took them need to step up next game because that’s not good enough

Friday was bad, tonight was awful. We look totally knackered, what on earth have fitness coaches done to a good team during a week in Dubai. We’ve don’t it again…madness…

My god what a dire performance. What’s going on

Absolutely rotten tonight. Why do we feel the need to play 3 midfielders that never move the ball forward quickly? Goldson was grabbing every offside ball and trying to move the play forward quickly, and the midfield just sapped the energy clean out of the game.

Big Borna the only one with pass marks. That was grim. If that’s what a break in Dubai does, then next year I suggest they Dinae bother. ..
