Rangers made it through to the Scottish League Cup semi-finals with a 1-0 away win against Livingston on Wednesday.
Glen Kamara’s goal in the fifth minute proved to be enough for Steven Gerrard’s side, against a Livingston team who had lost their last two matches going into the tie having previously had an unbeaten start to the campaign.
The game was aired live on BT Sport, with former Celtic striker Chris Sutton as part of the commentary team.
As you can imagine, the 46-year-old was far from a favourite amongst the Rangers fans before the game. However, they were left venting about him even more after what they considered to be biased punditry against them throughout the match.
Whilst some did see the funny side of him mistakenly naming centre-back Filip Helander as ‘Elmander’ throughout the game, they were less amused when it came to comments about two specific instances.
When there was a Rangers player down on the floor injured, Sutton reportedly bemoaned the lack of ‘full-blooded tackles’ in the modern game.
However, when it came to Rangers player Ryan Jack making a late tackle, the former Blackburn striker was quick to criticise him. He said on BT Sport (broadcast 25/9; 20:09): “He has a little kick out there. Now, whichever way you look at it, it’s absolutely ridiculous from Jack. And we have seen people see red for that in the past.”
Gers fans were quick to pick up on Sutton’s seemingly contradictory opinions on social media, and were critical of his commentary. Here is what a few had to say…
That guy genuinely disgusts me. He caused so much negativity towards alfredo also, all part of the agenda.

He just tries to be controversial in Scottish football. But tin hat on… he’s actually not that bad when discussing English football!
