A number of Rangers fans commended the performance of American right-back Matt Polster after he made his first league start of the season on Wednesday night.
With captain James Tavernier currently sidelined through injury, the 26-year-old was given the nod to start against Ross County at Ibrox ahead of Jon Flanagan, whose performance against Hearts at the weekend was slated by some ‘Gers supporters.
Polster’s three previous league outings this term had all come as a substitute and his future at the club seemed less than certain last month after the Daily Record claimed that he was among several players that Steven Gerrard was planning to offload in the January transfer window.
However, he seemed to make the most of his rare appearance in the starting XI on Wednesday’s 2-0 win, with James Black of Rangers News noting how he “almost scored a freak opener after five minutes” and feeling that he “got forward well and kept everything simple as he looked to cement his place as James Tavernier’s understudy”. In the4thofficial.net, Ayush Chaurasia wrote that Polster “showed great composure and looked defensively solid” and also “made a few good runs”.
