Rangers: Fans lament Willie Collum’s appointment as referee for Betfred Cup final

Plenty of Rangers fans on Twitter have been lamenting the appointment of Willie Collum as the referee for the upcoming Betfred Cup final.

The Evening Times reported that the 40-year-old will be the man in the middle for the December 8th fixture at Hampden Park in which Steven Gerrard’s side take on crosstown rivals Celtic, with @ClydeSSB on Twitter also sharing the news.

This will be the seventh time that Collum has taken charge of a meeting of the Premiership’s current top two and Rangers’ record in the fixture with him as referee is a very sobering one, with the Light Blues beaten on the last five occasions in which he was the whistler for a Glasgow derby.

He gave Celtic a penalty in the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat in 2017, although he has given just one red card to Rangers in previous derby clashes, dismissing Philippe Senderos for a second bookable offence in a 5-1 defeat in September 2016.

Nonetheless, these Rangers fans on Twitter were not impressed to hear that Collum has been put in charge of the Betfred Cup final on Sunday week:
