Despite seeing their team crash to a third league defeat of the season and drop 10 points off the pace in the title race last night, a number of Rangers fans lauded the contribution of one man in Steven Gerrard’s side.
Scott Arfield had given his team a 30th-minute lead against Kilmarnock with a powerful strike that gave the home side’s goalkeeper Jan Koprivec no chance, following on from a similarly stunning goal in last weekend’s Scottish Cup win over Hamilton. The versatile Canadian, deployed in a more withdrawn role by Gerrard at Rugby Park compared to recent games, was unfortunate not to have doubled his tally just before half-time after his left-foot volley whistled narrowly wide, a near miss which would ultimately prove fateful.
The efforts of Arfield, who now has eight goals for the season, were acknowledged by some reporters afterwards. Ayush Chaurasia of The 4th Official wrote that he “worked hard and put in a decent shift in midfield”, while Glasgow Times reporter Graeme Macpherson lauded “another spectacular strike” from the 31-year-old.

Arfield’s the only midfielder who’s back from Dubai!

Arfield has to stay in the side. Only one offering a threat from deep. Only play Davis if Jack needs to be protected having only just returned. Kent’s overcomplicating things. He wants the ball all the time but spends ages in areas where he can’t hurt the opposition.
