Some players thrive when put upon the biggest stages. Two Liverpool loanees have had the chance to do that this season, and as Ovie Ejaria called time on his loan after some poor displays, young Ryan Kent showed what’s made of when he bossed Celtic off the park in yesterday’s 1-0 Old Firm win for Steven Gerrard.

Ryan Kent hasn’t been the man who the Gers have always looked to when they’ve needed a performance, but like all of football’s biggest names, you need not ask for them to deliver, and Ryan Kent needed no invitation to take his chance when the world was watching. His performance against Celtic had fans wishing games were longer than 90 minutes just so they witness more of his brilliance, and it was the sublime youngster who laid on the only goal of the game.
Whenever you score the winning goal in a massive city derby, you deserve headlines. No one is taking that away from Ryan Jack, whose deflected strike was enough to see of Celtic, but in truth, even Jack will be lauding his on-loan teammate. The next step for Kent will be to make the performance from yesterday his benchmark and add consistency. His 90 minutes yesterday was just his second appearance in ten for Rangers in the league, but there’s no way Steven Gerrard will be able to leave him out after it.

The Gers needed someone to step up and take the game to Celtic yesterday, and Ryan Kent was that man in a victory that will live long in the memory for the fans.
