With Newcastle in need of a manager following the departure of Rafa Benitez, the search has taken a turn to up north to Scotland, though it has not proven successful.

The Mirror report that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was keen to bring in Steven Gerrard as Benitez’s successor at the Premier League side, but the Rangers manager has since turned down an approach from the North East giants.
Gerrard himself has further backed this up, as the Rangers boss said in a press conference via the Chronicle Live: “Fake news (the rumours to Newcastle). Not that I’m aware of.”
Of course, this quote was met with a warm reception from Rangers fans on social media, with many taking to Twitter express their delight in Gerrard all but confirming that he will remain in Glasgow for another season.
