Rangers: Fans react to sweetly-struck Steven Davis free kick in training

A number of Rangers fans have reacted to a 13-second piece of footage from first team training that was shared on their official Twitter account @RangersFC which shows midfielder Steven Davis executing a sweetly-struck free kick into the top corner of the net.

The veteran Northern Ireland international hasn’t exactly been a prolific presence in Steven Gerrard’s side this season, with only one goal in 34 matches prior to Wednesday’s trip to Kilmarnock, but he showed in training that he is well capable of finding the net on occasion.

Free kick duties at Rangers often fall to captain James Tavernier, who has scored eight times from direct free kicks during his time at Ibrox. He demonstrated his set piece ability in the 3-1 win over Livingston earlier in this campaign, as well as in the 2-0 triumph over Glasgow rivals Celtic towards the end of last season.

After seeing Davis’ free kick prowess in training, these Rangers fans took to Twitter in response, with some calling for him to take over from Tavernier on set pieces and others wanting him to showcase such scoring ability more often on matchdays:
