Rangers: Fans rejoice at impending loan arrival of Ianis Hagi

Rangers are set to add to their midfield options with the news that a loan move for Ianis Hagi is due to be completed before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Belgian media outlet HLN reported that the Genk and Romania attacking midfielder is expected to arrive in Glasgow on Thursday to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed loan deal to the end of the season, with the ‘Gers having the option of making the transfer permanent once the loan expires.

He is the son of former Romania international Gheorghe Hagi, who played in three World Cups in the 1990s and was named by UEFA as his country’s most outstanding player in their Golden Jubilee awards in 2004.

Ianis Hagi made five appearances for Genk in the Champions League this season but struggled to gain a regular place in the side, starting just seven matches in 2019/20 (as per TransferMarkt). He was a member of the Romania team that reached the semi-finals at last year’s European Under-21 Championship, scoring in a win over England (as per TransferMarkt).
