Rangers: Fans show their appreciation for Kenny Miller after he announces his retirement

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller announced his retirement from professional football on Thursday after a 24-year career (as per Sky Sports), with a number of ‘Gers fans subsequently taking to Twitter to wish him well and show their appreciation for his services to the club.

The 40-year-old had three separate spells at Ibrox during his career, first joining in summer 2000 and spending just over a year at the club. He returned in June 2008 and spent two-and-a-half more seasons with the Light Blues, coming back in 2014 for a final four-year stint with Rangers (as per TransferMarkt). He made a total of 301 appearances for the ‘Gers and scored 116 goals (as per fitbastats.com).

However, Miller made the bold decision to sign for Glasgow arch-rivals Celtic on a free transfer in 2006 (as per BBC), becoming just the third player since World War II to represent both clubs, while his final spell at Rangers ended acrimoniously after he was fined for his part in an altercation with then-manager Graeme Murty and suspended by the club (as per STV). He subsequently won an appeal to the SPFL relating to the matter.

He had many memorable games during his time at Rangers, though, scoring five in one match against St Mirren in 2000 and downing the same opposition 10 years later in a League Cup final that saw two ‘Gers players sent off. He began their last title-winning season of 2010/11 with 10 goals in his first six games, too, and these Rangers fans on Twitter paid their tributes to Miller upon his retirement from football:

Obviously divided the support but Kenny Miller gave us some great moments. The 9 man Cup Final and his goalscoring form at the beginning of the 2010/11 season really stick out.
