Lee Wallace is a man who plenty of Rangers fans believed they’d never see play for the club again. The experienced left-back hadn’t played for the club since September 2017 up until yesterday after groin surgery left him out for most of last season before his infamous spat with Graeme Murty.

After both Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller launched a tirade of abuse at Murty last season in the aftermath of the Gers 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic, the pair were told that they’d never play for the club again. Miller was allowed to leave the following summer, but Wallace stayed at the club, and yesterday saw him return to action when he came off the bench at McDiarmid Park.
It probably wasn’t in Steven Gerrard’s intentions to use Wallace yesterday, but when his starting left-back, Borna Barisic succumbed to injury he simply has no choice but to call upon the veteran Ibrox man and former Rangers captain, although the armband remained with Gerrard’s pick, James Tavernier. In the end, it was a happy return for Wallace as the Bluenoses turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win, and they’ll now be pleased to see more of the defender looking forward.

The Gers were buzzing to see Wallace back and will be keen to see whether or not he features against Hibs or Celtic in the next week.
