Plenty of Rangers fans took to Twitter to voice their displeasure over one significant piece of news ahead of this weekend’s top of the table Premiership clash.
As reported by the Daily Record, Kevin Clancy has been appointed as the referee for Sunday’s Glasgow derby.
The 36-year-old will be in charge of a derby for the second time, having also been the man in the middle for Rangers’ 2-0 victory over their Old Firm rivals towards the end of last season. [via TransferMarkt]
Sunday’s derby will be the third Rangers game this season with Clancy as referee. He was also in charge of the 1-0 win at St Mirren in August and the 1-1 draw at Hearts two months later. [via TransferMarkt]
During the game at Tynecastle, Nikola Katic voiced his disapproval over some tackles from Uche Ikpeazu, while Allan McGregor was booked for protesting one decision by Clancy (as per BBC).
He was also the man in charge when Alfredo Morelos was sent off for kicking out at Scott McKenna just 12 minutes into the Light Blues’ 1-1 draw at Aberdeen last season. [via BBC]
Following the announcement that he will take charge of the derby, these Rangers fans on Twitter weren’t best pleased to hear of his appointment:

Seriously?
One of the biggest games in years and they give it to that absolute balloon. He perpetually battles with willie collum for the title of worst referee in the world. Only one way that game will finish….— Craig Clements (@naefish1000) December 23, 2019
May as well hand Celtic the game now then

3 points for Celtic then. No danger will he punish them for anything
