Rangers narrowly beat Livingston in the Scottish League Cup on Wednesday to progress to the semi-finals.
Steven Gerrard’s side came away from the Almondvale Stadium with a 1-0 win, thanks to an early goal from Glen Kamara.
Despite the victory it was a somewhat uninspiring performance from the Gers, who were perhaps fortunate not to concede against a Livingston side which had lost just two of their opening 11 fixtures going into the encounter.
And one man in particular came in for criticism from the fans on social media: centre-back Filip Helander.
The Swedish international was making just his fourth start of the season, and his lack of game time was evident in his performance. He struggled to contain the Livingston attackers throughout the night and, as a result, was given an underwhelming match rating of 5 by Rangers News.
Having only signed in the summer from Bologna, the 26-year-old has replaced Nikola Katic in the starting line-up recently. He cost the Glasgow giants £3.5 million and the club are probably looking to get their money’s worth from him by getting him into the first team.
However, the Swede’s latest performance may prompt Gerrard to recall Croatian international Katic for their Scottish Premiership game against Aberdeen at the weekend.
