Plenty of Rangers fans have reacted with considerable excitement to the club being linked with a World Cup-winning striker this week.

French media outlet L’Equipe reported [via Daily Record] that the ‘Gers have made contact with Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud over a potential move to Ibrox next month.
The 33-year-old, who was a member of the France squad that lifted the World Cup last year, has struggled for game-time with the English Premier League club this season, making just seven appearances in all competitions and starting only twice in the league (as per TransferMarkt).
Giroud has been a prolific striker during his time in England, with 19 goals for Chelsea following from the 105 he netted for their London rivals Arsenal earlier in the decade.
Were he to join Rangers next month, it would have echoes of Jermain Defoe’s loan arrival at the start of 2019 in terms of a veteran striker swapping the Premier League for Ibrox.
These ‘Gers fans on Twitter would love to see Giroud coming to their club in January:
I’m a Rangers fan and Giroud right now is about 4 levels above Defoe. Defoe is still a great player but hes not a top international like Giroud currently is.
