Alfredo Morelos’ departure from Glasgow Rangers could be just days away, according to a fresh transfer report.
According to Football Insider, the Scottish club are on the verge of agreeing a deal worth around £17m for the Colombian striker with Ligue 1 side Lille, with the report stating that “the two clubs are close to agreeing on an eight-figure fee”.
Morelos is set to sign a three-year contract at the French club and the transfer could be completed early next week, as per Football Insider.
Morelos has 77 goals and 42 assists to his name in 133 appearances for the ‘Gers, demonstrating that he has been hugely prolific at Ibrox. However, he also has 47 yellow cards and been sent off seven times, which is a far from stellar disciplinary record for the 24-year-old.
Steven Gerrard will likely be reluctant to let Morelos go as his goals have been vital for the ‘Gers. He managed to get 29 goals last season in all competitions, which went a long way towards the club getting to the last 16 of the Europa League, with the second leg against Bayer Leverkusen taking place next Thursday.
The ‘Gers stand to make a huge profit on Morelos as they only spent £1.08m on him in 2017, so it may be difficult for them to turn down £17m from Lille.
With that money, they could seek to replace him and buy a couple of players as well to improve the quality of their squad, so it seems like it would be for the greater good at Ibrox.
It looks like Morelos wants to leave as he has agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 side, in which case there is no point trying to keep him, but they will need to already have one if not two replacements ready so that they can have adequate attacking options to call upon once the Colombian leaves.
