Glasgow Rangers: Fans heap praise on Leon Balogun after ‘Gers debut

Plenty of Glasgow Rangers fans hailed the “commanding” performance of Leon Balogun on his debut for the club in Saturday’s 1-0 win away to Aberdeen on the opening day of the Premiership season.
The Nigeria international took to Twitter (via @LeonBalogun) after the match to express his satisfaction with keeping a clean sheet and helping the ‘Gers to victory in his first competitive appearance for the Ibrox outfit.
Happy to have made my full competitive debut and start the season with 3 points & a clean sheet! @RangersFC pic.twitter.com/un7OZI4Qu1

The 32-year-old has already played more minutes in the league for his new club than he managed in the whole of 2019/20 for Brighton, where a lack of game-time saw him loaned out to Wigan last term.
Balogun’s statistics from the win at Pittodrie make for pleasant reading for the defender. He won six headers against the Dons, more than any other player on the pitch, along with making three clearances and winning one tackle. He also found a team-mate with three of his five long passes on Saturday (via WhoScored).
Do you think Leon Balogun will be a regular in the first XI this season?
Yes

No

These ‘Gers fans on Twitter let him know how happy they were with his debut, with one supporter believing he could go on to be “our new Davie Weir”, an ode to the ex-Ibrox defender who won three Premiership titles with the club and was once named their Player of the Year:

Great debut. I may be getting ahead of myself but Leon could be our new Davie Weir at the back. WATP.
