Kris Boyd has said that Ianis Hagi did not look interested against Livingston for Glasgow Rangers on Sunday.
The Light Blues’ winning start to the Premiership season was brought to a halt at the Tony Macaroni Arena as they could only manage a 0-0 draw. The Ibrox outfit are still top of the league and unbeaten, but these are the kind of games they must be looking to win if they are to be in first place at the end of the campaign.
Former ‘Gers man Boyd was particularly angry with the performance of Hagi yesterday. He said:
“There was too many passengers today.
“I thought Ianis Hagi didn’t do anything in terms of touches.
“I don’t want to label it at him, but to be honest he didn’t look interested.
“A lot of the time it looked as if the game just past him by.
“With everything that’s at stake, you need to go and demand a ball.
“Rangers paid a lot of money for these guys. You need to demand the ball off your teammates, make things happen in the final third, and if you do that then you’ll get a positive result.”
Indeed, it wasn’t the best display from the £4.05m-valued 21-year-old. He managed a lowly SofaScore rating of 6.4, made just one key pass, and won only one of the eight duels he contested. This is just the latest poor display he has given, with some ‘Gers fans taking aim at his showing last week against St. Johnstone as well.
Have you been disappointed with Hagi so far?
For £3m, Steven Gerrard will have been expecting a lot more from the former Genk man after his permanent arrival in the off-season, but so far this term he has failed to contribute a single goal or assist. He needs to start showing why the 54-time Scottish champions were so eager to sign him, or the pressure and criticism will only increase.
