The lowdown: Hot prospect
Signed from the Manchester City youth system as a fledgeling teenager, Simms has enjoyed a prolific rise through the Academy on Merseyside.
The 21-year-old provided 62 direct goal involvements in 83 outings for the Everton Under-18 and 23 sides combined before heading out on loan to earn senior experience at Blackpool and Hearts.
Now it appears as though another departure could be on the cards for Simms during the ongoing transfer window and the Gers are among the interested parties…
The latest: ‘Monitoring’
As per the Express, Rangers are believed to be ‘monitoring his situation’ before potentially making their move.
It’s claimed that the Ibrox club could ‘launch a bid’ to sign the young frontman on a permanent basis whilst ‘several’ Championship outfits also take an interest.
The report also states that Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts ‘would love to keep’ the starlet who was hailed for an ‘absolutely magnificent’ goal by BBC Sport commentator Liam McLeod during the Scottish Cup Semi-Final against Hibernian in April.
The verdict: Shrewd move
Following the departure of Cedric Itten to Young Boys and with Kemar Roofe facing battles with maintaining prolonged fitness, Rangers must add attacking reinforcements this summer regardless of what happens with the perennially linked away Alfredo Morelos.
As per Greek journalist Georgios Sideridis, Rangers have agreed a deal to sign PAOK striker Antonio Colak, and he will fly to Scotland ‘in the coming days’ for his medical.
If Morelos does go, then Simms would be another worthy addition. Last season, he scored seven times for Hearts across all competitions whilst operating exclusively as a centre-forward and also provided one assist which came against the Teddy Bears at Tynecastle Park.
Under contract until 2024 and holding a market value of just £270,000 (Transfermarkt), signing the 6 foot 1 frontman – who earns a reported £1,300-per-week (Salary Sport) – would be a wholly affordable venture for the Rangers hierarchy and should be considered as a genuine target to bolster van Bronckhorst’s options.
