Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard to move Alfredo Morelos on if he continues to let his temper get the better of him.
Morelos tipped for sale
Morelos was once again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons against Dundee United on Sunday as he elbowed an opposition player in the face during the Gers’ 2-1 victory. He has since received a two-game ban.
Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor believes that these continuous issues could convince Gerrard that the £13.5m-valued Colombia international (Transfermarkt) is no longer needed at Ibrox. He said:
“He’s disappointing the manager.
“If I’m Steven Gerrard now, they’ve looked into the incident and changed it to a red card he’ll just be disappointed.
“There’s no reason for him to do it. From the footage I’ve seen, he’s ran, put an elbow out when there’s no reason for him to put the elbow out to help his jump.
“I was 100 per cent sure it would be changed to a red card.
“If I’m Steven Gerrard I punish him with a fine and it’ll be a long way back for him to get into the side because Kemar Roofe is in great form and you’ve got Jermain Defoe there.
“I think Steven Gerrard will be upset with him because he doesn’t need these distractions and suspensions because they’re so far ahead of Celtic now he’ll want to keep winning.
“Steven Gerrard will see this as the perfect chance to win the league and I’m sure Rangers will be heartbroken if they don’t win the league given the position they’re in now.
“If Morelos keeps doing these things it’s something Gerrard will get frustrated with and look to move him on.”
Hard to disagree
It is not hard to see where Agbonlahor is coming from. Morelos may have only received a yellow card during the match itself, but he has already picked up seven red cards during his time north of the border. He was also lucky not to be sent off against Celtic earlier on in the campaign after he slapped Scott Brown on the back of the head.
Is Alfredo Morelos a liability?
When he is scoring on a regular basis, it is not as much of an issue for Gerrard. However, he has managed just seven goals in 21 games so far this campaign, and is starting to become something of a distraction. With Morelos linked with a move away from the club during the previous summer, a transfer does not seem unlikely, and it may soon become Gerrard’s only option.
