According to Football Insider, Jermain Defoe is expected to leave Glasgow Rangers at the end of this season regardless of what they end up achieving.
Defoe to depart
Defoe initially joined the Gers in January 2019, and he has since scored an impressive 29 goals in 64 games in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, his contract is set to run out at the end of this campaign, and he will need to take a big pay-cut on his £30,000+-a-week wages to stay at Ibrox. While he is expected to leave, though, he is not yet ready to call time on his professional career.
Expected
This is not overly surprising. Defoe has been a success at Ibrox – his goalscoring record has been solid, and his experience has been a huge boost for Steven Gerrard’s squad. Just last October, he was called “classy” by Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister (Rangers News). However, he has made just nine appearances in the league this term and is one of four strikers at Gerrard’s disposal.

The 54-time Scottish champions are on the brink of winning the Premiership title. Finishing top of the table will put them into the Champions League qualifying rounds – Europe’s premier club competition will demand a stronger squad from the Gers if they are to compete with the elite. The money that Defoe is currently earning can be put to good use across the team and will allow Ross Wilson and co to bring in the players Gerrard needs.
