Rangers: Michael Bridge discusses Alfredo Morelos’ future -Rangers News

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is ‘not the ultimate must-stay anymore’, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has told Give Me Sport

The lowdown

Morelos claimed in September that Rangers had received bids for him but failed to reach an agreement.

He expressed ‘hope’ that he would ‘soon’ be given ‘the opportunity’ to leave Ibrox.

Rangers signed Morelos from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki back in 2017 and he’s since made 211 appearances for the club, scoring 107 goals.

He’s now second in the club’s all-time list, 14 adrift of leader Kris Boyd.

According to Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old is worth £10.8million, making him the second most valuable player in the squad behind Ryan Kent.

Let's find out how well you remember some of Rangers' biggest goals this season. Who assisted Ianis Hagi's strike against Livingston in July, the Gers' first of the campaign?

The latest

Bridge suggested that Rangers could cope if they lost Morelos during the January transfer window.

Asked whether the Colombian could move on in the new year, he said: “I don’t know. I think, looking at Morelos as well, he’s not the ultimate must stay anymore.”

The verdict

Bridge’s claim is pretty bold considering that Morelos is still Rangers’ top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions. His overall record is also outstanding.

But perhaps he has a point. Morelos has been questioned this season, not least by The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, who was unhappy with his ‘body language’ in what he called his ‘maybe his worst-ever game’ in the Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Hibs.

And it was only last month that Frank McAvennie warned that the striker faced being dropped because he hasn’t ‘scored enough goals this season‘.

Ultimately, you could make the case that a separation might actually work out for both parties, assuming the Gers bank a healthy profit from any possible sale.

In other news, this Rangers talent has been backed to join a PL side.
