James Tavernier has moved into ninth place in UEFA’s FedEx Europa League Power Rankings, ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Tavernier was in impressive form against Standard Liege in the first game of the Europa League group stage on Thursday. Picking up a SofaScore rating of 8.3, he netted the first goal from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win, whilst he also managed two key passes and won ten of his 12 duels.

As such, he moved into ninth place in the aforementioned rankings, ahead of big names such as Aubameyang, Ibrahimovic and Dries Mertens.

Tavernier continues to impress this season for the Ibrox outfit. The £4.5m-valued right-back (Transfermarkt) has missed just one game in all competitions and has been a huge offensive threat, scoring nine goals and providing five assists to date.

He really is leading by example, fully matching what many expect of their captain. The 28-year-old has come a long way from being on the end of intense criticism from portions of the club’s fanbase in the past. If the ‘Gers are to win anything this campaign, it is vital that Tavernier continues to perform at this level. There is no doubt that he is now Steven Gerrard’s go-to man at the back.
