Rangers: Ian Baraclough drops Steven Davis injury news -Rangers News

Glasgow Rangers have now been given a big injury boost involving central midfield player Steven Davis.

The Lowdown: Injury problems

Davis has been struggling with injury problems at Ibrox this season, and so has only managed to make 24 appearances in total over all competitions so far.

Should Davis start for Rangers?

He has not featured since the 3-0 win away at Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup last month, but has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming friendly games against Luxembourg and Hungary respectively.

The Latest: Baraclough update

As quoted by Football Scotland, NI manager Ian Baraclough has claimed that Davis should be fit to play for the national team despite his injury setbacks, and questioned why he would be considering retirement:

“Some people seem to want him to retire, I don’t know why, he’s playing as well as ever.

“He’s had a couple of setbacks, a small calf issue and thigh issue, but I’ve not been told he won’t be fit for us come next week.”

The Verdict: Big boost

If Davis is deemed fit enough to play for his country, then it will be a big boost for the Teddy Bears for the rest of the campaign, assuming he returns unscathed after the break.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already revealed that Ryan Kent is now available to play Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night after limping off against Dundee, and although Davis is not, it seems he should be fit after the international fixtures.

The 37-year-old ranks highly among his teammates in terms of average passes and at a high success rate, and so is vital in keeping things ticking in the middle of the park.

His leadership qualities, given that he has captained the side on a couple of occasions this term, will also be crucial in the title race against Celtic, in which they will have to show a lot of character if they are to overcome their city rivals.
