According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers have refused to give up on taking Billy Gilmour back to Ibrox on loan in the summer.
Gers still want Gilmour
Gilmour made the move from Rangers to Chelsea in 2017, and he has seen his stock rise steadily ever since. He has so far made 17 appearances for the Blues (Transfermarkt) as a teenager despite dealing with a heavy knee injury for a large part of this term.
During the January transfer window, there were suggestions the £6.75m-valued 19-year-old (Transfermarkt) could move away from Stamford Bridge on loan with Rangers as a potential destination after Frank Lampard was sacked as the club’s manager (The Scottish Sun). In the end, though, new man Thomas Tuchel decided to keep him in south-west London.
If there was ever a time when the Gers were going to be able to convince Gilmour to move back to the Gers, it was in January. Having played just six times this season at Chelsea, a short-term switch would surely have guaranteed him more time on the pitch and a chance to impress his new gaffer.
Would you like to sign Billy Gilmour?
However, with all due respect to the Scottish Premiership, the quality is not comparable to that of the Premier League, where Gilmour hopes to make his mark. As such, a move back north of the border would not make much sense for the midfielder if Tuchel has plans for him next term.
