According to Football Insider, Brandon Barker’s big wages were the problem behind him not leaving Glasgow Rangers during the summer transfer window.
The Lowdown: Barker allowed to leave
As the transfer window approached its end, Rangers made a decision on the future of the 24-year-old winger.
They decided that he would be allowed to leave Ibrox, but in the end, no deal materialised.
The Latest: Wages
As per this latest report, Rangers were unable to offload Barker due to his high wages.
The former Manchester City man was signed when Mark Allen was still the sporting director, and he is said to be earning £8,500 per week at the club (salarysport.com), a salary agreed by the aforementioned Allen.
The Verdict: Shame for all involved
This is a shame for all involved. Barker made just 13 appearances for the Gers last campaign before being loaned out to Oxford United, and he has yet to feature at all this term (Transfermarkt).
Clearly, he is not a part of Steven Gerrard’s plans and therefore has little prospect of playing on a regular basis this season.
Should Brandon Barker leave Rangers?
For Rangers, too, it is unfortunate. They now still have a player on their books who is costing them a significant amount of money. There is still another transfer window to come before the end of the season – perhaps then, a solution can be found.
In other news, Gabriel Agbonlahor has made this title claim.
