Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Kevin Phillips has tipped a possible Rangers boost as the Gers pursue Sheffield United ace John Lundstram – claiming that the Ibrox target has ‘played his last game’ whilst making ‘his intentions clear’ as Ross Wilson eyes a move to bring him to Glasgow.
Glasgow Rangers are reportedly weighing up a move for the Premier League midfielder as Gers boss Steven Gerrard aims to strengthen his side further during the mid-season window, gifting Rangers a potential uplift in their pursuit of an unprecedented 55 Scottish league titles.
Should Rangers go all out for John Lundstram in January?
No, better options out there
Phillips, in an interview with Football Insider, has claimed that Lundstram ‘will move’ away from Bramall Lane following his refusal to sign an extension with the Yorkshire outfit.
Gers tipped for Lundstram boost
Blades boss Chris Wilder candidly explained that the club will entertain offers for his signature come January, with Rangers firmly in the chase and real candidates to sign him.
Tipping a possible transfer boost for Rangers in light of this news, Phillips is ‘certain’ Lundstram will be on the move – mentioning the Gers as a potential destination.
Claiming it will be ‘interesting’ to see where he ends up, a switch to the SPFL and Rangers could gift the midfielder with silverware just months after his proposed move, says the pundit.
“Lundstram has made his intentions clear – he is not signing a new deal,” explained Phillips to FI.
“I think he will move on in January, whether that be Rangers or another club in the Premier League. I am certain he will be on the move and I think Chris Wilder has accepted that.
“If he goes to Rangers, he could get a trophy straight away because it looks like they will be winning that league. It is going to be interesting to see where he ends up.”
Transfer Tavern take
As Gerrard seeks to bolster his squad ahead of a congested fixture calendar, the possibility of 55 SPFL titles arguably seems more realistic than ever this season – but it remains to be seen whether the Glasgow giants do, in fact, land their man.
