Glasgow Rangers cult hero Nacho Novo has taken to Instagram to express his disgust with comments made by Irvine Welsh towards Alfredo Morelos.
Novo livid at Welsh
Author Welsh was invited on to Hibernian TV to offer his opinions on the side’s match against the Gers on Wednesday.

In the first-half, Morelos was arguably lucky not to be sent off after stamping on Ryan Porteous. During the interval, Welsh made clear his disgust with the challenge, saying that Morelos should be “macheted” into small pieces and “consumed by seagulls” (via The Daily Record).
Understandably, there has been considerable outrage at the comments, and Novo has joined the criticism. Taking to the social media platform, he said: “I’m so disgusted with this man’s comments. Is this not a hate crime?” (via Rangers News).

The frustration and anger is completely understandable. The challenge may have been a poor one, but there is still no need for comments such as the ones made by Welsh.

The Trainspotting writer has since explained that his words were only meant in jest (The Daily Record), but that still does not make them acceptable.
£10.8m-valued Morelos (Transfermarkt) is already a player who comes in for an awful lot of abuse – the last thing he needs is more of that. While he certainly doesn’t help himself sometimes with his actions on the pitch, the 24-year-old deserves more respect than this.
