Rangers: Fans fume at Connor Goldson’s Benfica display

Glasgow Rangers threw away a two-goal lead against Benfica to blow the chance of qualifying for the next round of the Europa League on Thursday, and Connor Goldson played his part in that collapse.

The Gers were 2-0 up at Ibrox thanks to goals from Scott Arfield and Kemar Roofe. However, despite the Portuguese side being without a number of players, they were table to level things up thanks to a James Tavernier own-goal and a strike from Pizzi. The result is far from a nightmare – the Gers have still gone 22 games unbeaten and are top of their group in the European competition – but Steven Gerrard will be unhappy that his side were unable to see the game out.

The usually reliable Goldson was far from his best. He was caught in possession in dangerous areas on a couple of occasions, and looked shaky as Benfica cranked up the pressure.

We are a terrible linesman decision away from seeing that game out.

Tav and Goldson were the only two that struggled tonight IMO.

Of course they do. I just hate to see that sort of regression. Goldson was honking there. I thought he’d ironed out the bricking it under pressure with the ball. Just get rid.
