Glasgow Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has been demoted from the Romania national team to the U21 side for the upcoming international break.

Hagi has been a regular fixture for the eastern European nation in recent times – he has so far picked up 14 caps at the age of 22.

During the last international break, the £4.05m-valued former Genk man (Transfermarkt) criticised the tactics of Romania boss of Mirel Radoi after their 4-0 defeat to Norway. That does not appear to have gone down well with the boss at all, and as such he will now play with the youth side.
Lesson for Hagi
This will no doubt be a blow to Hagi – as the son of Gheorghe, arguably the greatest player in the country’s history, he has plenty of pressure on his shoulders to succeed. This will do little to help him do that.

However, this is perhaps a valuable lesson for the midfielder – you must be careful of what you say in public. Whilst it is ok to be frustrated with the manager, airing dirty laundry in such a way will not earn you the boss’ respect. Radoi is clearly trying to send Hagi a message here, and it is one that must be taken on board by the Gers man.
