Rangers interested in Lawrence Shankland

Rangers will surely start having to plan for next season now after their current campaign fell a little flat. Steven Gerrard’s side have significantly improved, however, they have not been able to close the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Goals could be something that the Light Blues look to add next season and it appears one man could be on their radar in the summer.

What’s the News?

According to a report by The Daily Star, Rangers are interested in Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland.

The 23-year-old has scored 31 goals in his 33 appearances across all competitions and the prolific forward is available on a free transfer in the summer as his contract at the Scottish Championship outfit expires.

However, a number of clubs are understood to be interested in him, with Celtic also believed to be in the race to sign him.

The Verdict:

Goals have not exactly been too much of a problem at Rangers this season with Alfredo Morelos being in fine form. However, bringing a player like Shankland to Ibrox could be something that improves their chances of obtaining silverware in the future.

With talk about the Colombian potentially departing in the summer, bringing the 23-year-old could be a player that replaces him in a really inexpensive but effective way.

And, the fact that he already has experience of playing Scottish football, he may not have too many problems fitting into the team and could thrive under the guidance of Gerrard.

If he were able to score even half the number of the goals that he has been able to come up with this season for the Light Blues, trying to sign him should be something Rangers should seriously consider.
