Rangers are said to have been keeping an eye on Dinamo Zagreb’s Amer Gojak this summer and sent scouts to watch him in the Croatia Super Cup final at the weekend, according to a report by SportSport.
The Bosnia & Herzegovina media outlet claim the attacking midfielder was a person of interest for the Light Blues, although there was no suggestion of his name when The Daily Record revealed the Gers were watching the encounter.
SportSport state the Gojak could be available for a transfer fee of around €15million (£13.5m) this summer, with the likes of Real Betis, Schalke 04, Werder Bremen and LOSC Lille said to be possible destinations for the 22-year-old as well.
Although not a lot will be known about Gojak, the 22-year-old has certainly had some rave reviews about his talent and the potential he could achieve with the right guidance.
Back in 2014, Football Talent Scout managed to dig up a quote from BHDragons.com regarding the attacking midfielder when he was just 17-years-old that put him in a positive light.
At the time, it read: “Arguably the biggest talent in Bosnia since Edin Dzeko, Gojak burst on to the scene a few years ago as he set several scoring marks while playing in the FK Željezničar youth squads. Amer Gojak is a skilful attacking midfielder who has also been deployed as a centre forward and winger due to his good pace, dribbling ability, aerial prowess and hold up ability.”
Gojak has since made the step up to first-team football in the last four years and has gone on to establish himself within the first-team picture at Zagreb. Last season, he managed to score four goals and provide a further four assists in his 43 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt), taking his own appearance total to over 100 outings for the Croatian outfit. As SportSport noted, he also managed to bag the only goal of the game in their Super Cup win against HNK Rijeka at the weekend.
It certainly would not be a surprise if Rangers were interested in signing Gojak this summer, as they have had some success when it comes to their recruitment of players from the Balkan nation.
Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda have all made the trip from clubs within Croatian football and joined up with Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox to varying degrees of success. Grezda appears to have found it more difficult to adapt to life in Scotland and could be on his way out already (Daily Record), whilst Katic drew plenty of plaudits from the club’s fans on a forum site for some of his performances (Follow Follow).
However, whether Rangers would be prepared to splash out £13.5m for Gojak remains to be seen. The largest fee Gerrard has spent rebuilding his squad currently stands at between £3.2m and £3.5m with the recent addition of Filip Helander, according to the data collected by Transfermarkt.
