Rangers are moving back into the forefront of Scottish football once again and their supporters here in the Tavern are absolutely delighted about it!

Whilst they remain some way behind arch rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premier League table this season, they still sit second and European football looks on the cards.

Mark Warburton has done a cracking job rebuilding his side for the upcoming campaign, and there’s plenty of thought here in the pub that with some decent signings in January, things could get even better.

But as we’ve seen in the past with Gers, there are certain things their supporters will want to avoid in the transfer window.

We’ve seen plenty of things go wrong in seasons past and it’s important that they remain on the straight and narrow this time out.

So with that in mind, here’s TWO Rangers might be fearful of happening during the January transfer window…..

Signing below-par players

Plenty of credit has to go to Mark Warburton for the way he’s managed his squad over the past couple of years – it’s been very tricky and there hasn’t been a shedload of investment either.

But signing players like Phillipe Senderos and Matt Crooks in recent months haven’t been the best moves in the transfer window, and they need to ensure only quality names join the club these days.

They need to start building a squad that is going to seriously challenge for titles again, not bring in older names that are past their sell-by-dates.

Holding onto key names

It’s the same for any top side, wherever you are around the world.

Holding onto your best players during mid-season transfer windows is something that can define your season and that certainly speaks volumes for Gers.

They’ve got an array of players that are being linked with moves away from Ibrox and it’s important that they keep hold of the spine of their squad moving forward, or they will be left pretty short when the crunch fixtures start piling up.

There have been some real stars in this team and fans here in the pub would be gutted if they were to move on this January.
