Rebuild: West Brom’s dream defence to bounce back to the Premier League in 2019

According to the Mirror, West Brom centre-back Craig Dawson is keen to engineer himself a move away from the Hawthorns this summer.

Dawson isn’t the only Baggies defender to have been linked with a move away during this transfer window. Kieran Gibbs and Ahmed Hegazi are also being rumoured to be heading for the exit, whilst Jonny Evans has already left the club in order to return to the Premier League with Leicester City. Fellow centre-backs Gareth McAuley and Ali Gabr have also moved on.

Should the Dawson and Hegazi moves go through, West Brom will have lost 5 first team centre-backs in a single window.

Darren Moore will be desperate to identify and secure their replacements as soon as possible.

Rob Holding

Holding broke into the Arsenal team towards the end of the 2016/17 season following a summer move from Bolton Wanderers. Since then however, despite some impressive performances, he’s struggled to nail down a first team place.

A loan move with plenty of regular football could be the best thing for the 22-year-old’s development.

If Darren Moore can convince the Gunners to allow Holding to drop into the Championship, he’ll be a great temporary solution for the Baggies.

Robert Huth

The 33-year-old 3-time Premier League winner is available on a free transfer and could come in to provide some much needed experience and depth to Darren Moore’s defensive options.

A one-year deal for the German could turn out to be a smart, economic bit of business.

James Chester

West Brom can take advantage of the financial crisis Aston Villa are currently negotiating to potentially get Wales international centre-back James Chester in a cut-price deal for less than the £7.2 million Transfermarkt currently value him at.

The 29-year-old could be the bedrock upon which this new look West Brom back line is built.
