The news wires were positively rattling yesterday afternoon after the beloved Harry Redknapp announce on Talksport that he believed that Chelsea’s Joe Cole had a deal as good as done with Manchester United.
That all changed last night and an unamed spokesman for Manchester United told Daniel Taylor of The Guardian that this wasn’t the case. In fact, Joe Cole wasn’t even on Sir Alex’s shopping list and they had not even made enquiries about the player to Stamford Bridge.
This backs up what Mark Ogden of the Telegraph suggested a few weeks back.
All I can do is repeat what I’ve said previously. Here is a Chelsea player who cannot hold down a regular spot in the Chelsea first team. A player largely seen as only having just made the cut for the England squad. A player that has yet to kick a ball with an England shirt on in the tournament.
This has now been revealed as an exercise in trying to rig the bidding. Which is nothing shy of a huge gamble. Say England come home after tea today, what price Cole then?
