It’s been a quiet day in terms of incomings at Old Trafford but Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern can at least order a pint to celebrate the departure of Brazilian midfielder Anderson.
Anderson has been at the club since signing for a massive £26 million from Porto in 2007 and has struggled to make any sort of major impact during that time.
He has featured just once in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal this season and is set to complete a deadline day move to Brazilian club Internacional according to the Daily Star.
And former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the 26-year-old will look back on his Manchester United career with regret.
“He’ll look back at his Manchester United career with some level of disappointment,” Neville said.
“I’ve played with him, he’s got an enormous amount of talent and there have been some really big games at Anfield where he has shown he is capable of playing in the big matches.
“He is a big-game player, has a big-game mentality, lots of skill but never was fit enough to be able to do it consistently, week in and out in the Premier League and that’s a real shame.
“That’s when you have those players who look back at the end of their careers and wonder: ‘Could I have been that little bit more driven?’
“He has the talent but lacked in other areas and was unfortunate with injuries.”
With just hours remaining in the January transfer window, our Red Devils regulars are sceptical on the subject of Louis van Gaal making any big name last minute additions.
Their rather average mood hasn’t really been improved after they’ve just heard via Metro that the one likely incoming this deadline day could well be untried young French starlet Dayot Upamecano who could be arriving from Valenciennes.
