Rangers fans are in an optimistic mood here in the Transfer Tavern after the appointment of Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha and there’s hope he’ll take the club to the same level as Celtic in years to come!

Despite being somewhat of a left-field choice for the job, he’s got good pedigree in the world of football management, albeit mostly as a number two, and as he takes on the biggest job of his career, fans seem to be in an upbeat mood.

After the battling 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Celtic, there is real feeling here in the Tavern that next season could see the Gers restored to the level we saw a few years back. It was always going to take some time to bring the squad together, but it seems like there’s finally some direction about this team.

And with the mood high here, we want to take you through some forgotten names from Rangers’ history, for both good and bad reasons.

So with that in mind, here are TWO players you’ve probably forgotten ever played for Rangers…

Gennaro Gattuso

Before Xabi Alonso came onto the scene, former Italian international Gennaro Gattuso was widely regarded as one of the coolest players in the game and Gers fans here in the Tavern certainly seem to agree!

He had a one-year stint at Ibrox in the earlier years in his career, something forgotten by most, before he spent an illustrious spell with Serie A giants AC Milan.

Despite spending just the one season in Scotland, it seems he made a real impact on Gers fans and he’ll forever go down as a club hero.

Steven Pressley

Now trying to cut it in professional management, and succeeding to a certain degree, Steven Pressley was a player who played for both Celtic and Rangers.

He was a product of the Rangers youth system but failed to really establish himself as a first-team regular and eventually left the club for Coventry City in 1994.

He had most of his success at Hearts, where he played over 300 times and quickly became club captain, but Gers fans still remember him as the player who they thought, at the time, might become the new Richard Gough.
