The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the progress which Unai Emery has made in the transfer market so far this summer, and recent reports suggest he is set to allow three players to leave as part of his upheaval.
As the Gunners step into a post-Wenger era under Emery it appears the new Spanish manager is attempting to stamp his personal mark on the club by overseeing an overhaul in the personnel of the Arsenal squad. According to a recent report from The London Evening Standard, Arsenal are closing in on a triple swoop to sign Lucas Torreria, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, but three players could make way for the trio.
The report claims that Emery is due to meet Jack Wilshere, Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi this week to discuss their futures in North London, with Sven Mislintat expressing doubts over the latter’s ability.
Naturally, Mustafi will have the opportunity to convince Emery that he deserves a chance to prove himself under the new boss when they meet this week, but Mislintat’s influence at the club could prove to be decisive in discussions.
Landlord’s verdict
Our landlord believes that the departure of the aforementioned trio would be no great loss to Arsenal ahead of the new season, and a summer clear-out should help the club to return to the top-four.
Although Wilshere undoubtedly possesses immense technical ability, he has failed to develop into the player which many expected him to become and there is a growing feeling that the time is right for him to embark on a new challenge.
With plenty of attacking options to chose from, the departure of Perez is viewed as something of an inevitability, whilst the jury is out on whether Mustafi deserves one last chance to prove himself after two underwhelming seasons with the club.
