Report: Rangers target former youth prospect who made his name at Manchester United

Rangers have been busy in the transfer window this summer as Steven Gerrard looks to rebuild, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern may be about to see a huge name come through the doors at Ibrox.

The new manager has been extremely active since he was confirmed as the new chief. He has already made six signings in an attempt to improve his side as he looks to help the club become the dominant force they once were in Scottish football.

It is believed that Gerrard is considering a move for a central midfielder now after bolstering his defensive options, and he could be able to bring an experienced veteran to the side according to reports.

KickOff are claiming that Stoke City’s Darren Fletcher is being targeted with the Scotland international set to look for a new challenge following the Potters’ relegation to the Championship. The former Manchester United midfielder, who has won a Champions League as well, would certainly bolster the middle of the park despite being 34-years-of-age.

And the report also claims that Fletcher was on Rangers’ books during his youth, and that factor could play a pivotal role in Gerrard’s bid to secure his signature.

Landlord’s Verdict

The veteran midfielder would still be a huge signing for Gerrard this summer if he were to bring him to Ibrox as his vast experience in the game would make him a valuable member of the dressing room.

Some of the locals in the Tavern may have doubts about what he can offer the side, with the majority of his playing days behind him, however, his experience alone should be enough to help the side become more competitive in central midfield.
