Roma have sent an official £20m offer to Manchester United for winger Jadon Sancho. The England international is one of four remaining “bomb squad” members at United, who have been excluded from training with the first team.
Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia are the other three outcasts who have been told by manager Ruben Amorim to find a new club this summer. BBC has reported that United are determined to sell Sancho this summer to offload the player’s wages.
Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, helping the club win the Europa Conference League with a goal off the bench in a 4-1 victory over Real Betis. Chelsea opted against signing him permanently however, instead paying a £5m penalty to get out of an obligation to buy him.
The 25-year-old joined United for £73m four years ago and has so far endured a stop start career at Old Trafford. His best glimpses during his time at United arguably came while away on loan, starring for Chelsea and for former club Dortmund who he rejoined for a brief stint.
He’s managed 12 goals in 83 appearances across all competitions for United.
Roma chasing Sancho
Roma are hoping to beat out Serie A rivals Juventus to Sancho’s signature. Juventus were credited with interest in the player for much of the summer but it is Roma who have launched the first concrete offer.
It is yet to be seen whether or not £20m will be enough to tempt United into selling the player. United are known to prefer to sell Sancho rather than loan him out again.
Though United will hope to recoup as much of their original investment, they will be resigned to the fact that player has only one year remaining on his contract. The Red Devils do have an option to extend the player’s deal by an additional year, but Sancho’s massive salary makes that option unlikely.
There have also been suggestions that Roma would be interested in a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season via certain clauses.
