ad week for winker Christiano Ronaldo as on the pitch he has been hit by an ankle injury and off it his attempt at singing is rightfully getting a lot of stick. The Real Madrid star will have to sit and watch as Portugal face Belarus after injuring himself against Hungary on Saturday. Whilst his former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will also be having a quiet laugh like many others at his singing performance and Wayne Rooney is hardly upset at the plight facing Portugal.
An ankle injury has brought an abrupt end to Ronaldo’s impressive start to the new season in Spain, where his six goals have helped to move Real Madrid to second place in La Liga. The 24 year old was forced off after just 27 minutes of Portugal’s game against Hungary on Saturday and he faces up to a month on the sidelines. He will now have to rely on his Portuguese teammates to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Play-Off in November. That should be a pretty straightforward task as all they have to do is beat minnows Malta on Wednesday, a team that seems to be lacking in any striking talent at all as they are yet to hit the back of the net in nine qualifying games.
Hopefully the extra spare time that Ronaldo now has will not be spent on pursuing a music career as no-one should have to listen to that atrocity. Painful footage of Ronaldo terribly singing a ballad in an advert for a Portuguese bank is circulating on the internet and people should proceed with caution. He joins the long list of footballers such as Hoddle and Waddle who should stick to the day job, and provides further evidence that footballers should be banned from picking up a microphone. In other news Christiano has the difficult choice of picking a new car; does he buy a Lamborghini Gallardo or the Ferrari 458 Italia? The recession has hardly hit him hard has it?

Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney has also been talking about him and seems to be revelling in Portugal’s struggle to qualify. Rooney has said that he hopes Portugal will not qualify for the tournament in South Africa as he hasn’t forgotten memories of clashes between the pair. Portugal knocked The Three Lions out of both Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup and are likely to be one of England’s main challengers once again, so many fans will not be disappointed to see them miss out. Would the disappointment of not seeing the 2008 World Player of the Year next summer be a small price to pay for enhancing England’s chances?
