The Arsenal fan in the Transfer Tavern aren’t confident that their potentially imminent signing, Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis, is what they need. The Greek centre-back is supposedly set to be unveiled as a Gunner in July but the fans have their doubts.
Sokratis to Arsenal apparently is all done, however it cannot be announced until the start of July due to financial restrictions on BVB! Are you happy with this deal or would you have liked #AFC to sign someone else?

The worry from the fans is that Sokratis will just be the next Shkodran Mustafi, signed for a sizeable fee with a good reputation but ultimately not up to the standards required to be a defender for a top-six Premier League club. Whilst this might be a harsh criticism from the fans who have likely not seen more than two or three cameos from the Greek centre-back, the fear is still there and they’ll be praying they’re proven wrong about the defender.
At the age of 30, Sokratis is in his prime years as a central defender and as he comes with Champions League pedigree it shouldn’t be a transfer that causes any unrest amongst the fans. However, with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin available for a fee of £18 million as he enters his final year on his contract, the fans have been left questioning why they didn’t make an earlier move for the Uruguayan defender who is leaps and bounds better than the Dortmund man that they’s so close to wrapping up.

There’s no doubting that Sokratis is better than what the club already have, but that isn’t enough to convince the Arsenal fans that he’s the man they need.
