Under Pressure Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez wants to add another right back to his squad to cover for injured summer signing Glen Johnson’s absence. The £18m squigly haired England international is still out recovering from medial ligament damage and is expected to be out for some time to come. Liverpool’s injury worries are mounting and Rafa wants to assure he’s getting the best out of his most important players. Despite impressing in the position for most of Johnsons time out, vice captain Jamie Carragher was given a torrid time by Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matthew Jarvis on Tuesday and Benitez wants to bring him back into his preferred and more effective position in the center as Liverpool’s poor form this season continues.
With neither Philipp Degen nor Stephen Darby impressing in the role so far, and promising youngster Martin Kelly also sidelined, the race for a short term replacement is on for the Merseysiders.
However the Spaniard told the Liverpool Echo that he won’t be rushed into panic buying;
“We have to be careful with what we do. There are not too many good players around who are available and we will think about it. We still have some time but we will not rush if we cannot find the right player for this position.”
Valencia’s Miguel Monteiro, Wolves’ Richard Stearman and Manchester City’s Nedum Onuoha are all potential targets.

Why? can some one tell me why rafa wants to buy a right back when it is obvious we need attacking players, we have 5 players capable of playing right back why by another, fair enough johnson and kelly are injured, but stil just play carra or degen there why waste money. in a month when the players have recovered there will be 6 right backs. joke rafa needs to go
Because it is important that Liverpool don’t leak at the back, which is given if the back line is not playing perfectly. Gerrard, and Torres have the potential to penetrate any defensive line up on their day. Others like Kyut, Benayoun etc. Also have the potential of penetrating any defensive line up. A good RB will ensure that we make anfield a fortress again.
