Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has emerged as a potential transfer target for Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, according to the Scottish Sun.
Will French Eddy finish the season at Celtic?
Edouard, 21, has been a key figure in Celtic’s solid start to the season, scoring 12 goals and getting 12 assists thus far.
He’s also been instrumental in the Europa League, finding the net against CFR Cluj and assisting in both wins over Lazio. Indeed, while there is said to be interest from Selhurst Park, former England boss Roy Hodgson is said to know any deal would be difficult to complete given the Hoops’ title defence being in full swing.
Edouard scored 22 times last season and has established himself as the primary centre forward since the departure of Moussa Dembele to Lyon.
Losing the French starlet would represent a huge problem for Neil Lennon’s side, with the squad lacking in depth at front. Indeed, Leigh Griffiths would be in line to replace Edouard, but has played just 28 games since the start of last season.
The Scottish international hasn’t played since August due to a hamstring injury and missed part of last season due to personal reasons. Aside from that, the options are fairly bare and the fact Edouard has also assisted 12 times this season suggests the Bhoys would be missing far more than the goals he puts in himself.
The champions are only ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers on goal difference, with both sides sitting on 31 points after 12 games. So, the goals of Edouard will be key to his side securing a ninth consecutive Scottish title with stiff competition coming from their big rivals.
Crystal Palace will have funds available after the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in the summer but it’d be madness for the club to sell their key man halfway through the campaign, even if big money came in.
