Celtic fans are spot on: Lewis Morgan deserves more game time under Brendan Rodgers

Celtic supporters have been very upbeat throughout the international break after seeing their side record back-to-back Scottish Premiership victories prior to the two-week interruption.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have largely underwhelmed in the early phase of the 2018/19 season, and that was again the case at Parkhead back on September 29 in their narrow 1-0 success over Aberdeen. And while they then lost out to Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League a few days later, they hit back admirably at St Johnstone on October 7 in firing six past Tommy Wright’s side, with four from James Forrest alongside strikes from Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor sealing an emphatic victory for the Bhoys.

Thus, there have been many happy Celtic fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter in recent times to praise the efforts of attacker Lewis Morgan while on international duty with the Scotland Under-21s, with some now calling for the youngster to earn more game time at Celtic Park.

And such have been the 22-year-old’s efforts for his country in recent times, alongside how impressive he was for St Mirren last term, the £675,000-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt) is a gem that Rodgers need to unleash in the near future.

Ultimately, the Bhoys secured a permanent deal for Morgan back in January of this year after hugely impressing for St Mirren in the Scottish Championship, with the attacker eventually finishing last season with 18 goals in 42 games for the club after being loaned back immediately after his Celtic move.

And in finishing as the club’s top goal-scorer in the league alongside helping Jack Ross’ side win the second division, it’s clear that Morgan has a very bright future ahead of him – there’s a reason he already has two senior Scotland caps to his name.

Yes, he didn’t make Alex McLeish’s senior set-up for the recent internationals, but Morgan shone for the Under-21s in netting in their 3-1 defeat to Ukraine before being a rare shining light in their 2-0 loss to the England Under-21s earlier this week – he is certainly making huge strides.

And that is sure to be of great interest to Celtic boss Rodgers, who has so far afforded the 22-year-old just six appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys this term, albeit the fact that he has appeared in each of their last three league games suggests that he is slowly but surely inching his way up the pecking order.

And given his recent exploits on the international stage, alongside Celtic’s need for a spark to really get them going after a reasonably lethargic start to the season, the Bhoys chief may look at Morgan as the man to come into his side and get them going – he certainly has the talent to do just that.

Thus, those Celtic fans calling for more game time for the 22-year-old are absolutely spot on – he’s a gem Rodgers must seek to unleash in the near future in a bid to help the Bhoys improve upon their sluggish start to the season.
