Celtic are set for a huge summer overhaul at Parkhead as they plan to cut over £30,000 per week from the club’s wage bill, reports have claimed.
Two bumper summer sales
The 2020/21 campaign will be a year that the Bhoys will want to put behind them as soon as possible. Neil Lennon’s side are currently 18 points behind arch-rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and chances of winning an unprecedented 10-in-a-row look highly unlikely.
On top of this, the club revealed that they had made a £5.9m pre-tax loss in their half-yearly results due to matches being played behind closed doors.
As a result of this, Football Insider revealed that Celtic plan to take a whole new approach by reconstructing the current squad next summer, regardless of whether Lennon is still in charge or not.
The report added that high-profile names like striker Odsonne Edouard and centre-back Kristoffer Ajer will be two of the players shown the door in what could be a cost-cutting exercise. The duo could be followed out the Parkhead exit door by the likes of Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton too.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
It will be a great shame for the supporters to see two players that have had such an impact at Parkhead over the years leave the club – Edouard has played 157 games and scored 80 goals, while Ajer has donned the Hoops jersey on 165 occasions.
We think that this could be the summer where both depart – and make way for fresh, young faces to take the club forward for the long-term.
