In a recent article in The Daily Record, their outlet’s team of journalists discussed whether or not Rangers summer signing Kemar Roofe has surpassed Alfredo Morelos to become the club’s number one centre-forward.
On that topic, Gordon Parks revealed that he believes this is the case, declaring that Roofe is ‘ahead of Morelos’ in the Gers pecking order now.
How did Parks back up this claim?
The journalist explained why he feels this way by praising Roofe’s ‘professionalism and application,’ declaring that the 27-year-old brings these qualities to the table ‘without all the nonsense’ that he feels comes as part of the Morelos package.
Parks went on to share that he feels trust is paramount heading into a ‘crucial phase of the season’ and suggested that Gers boss Steven Gerrard can trust Roofe more than Morelos, declaring that the Colombia international has a ‘damaging petulance’ that makes him less trustworthy.
Stats may also back up Parks’ comments on the Rangers striking situation
No Rangers player scored more Premiership goals than Morelos in either the 2017/18 campaign or the 2018/19 campaign, while Morelos was also the Gers’ top goalscorer in the UEFA Europa League in both of the last two seasons.
This season, however, Roofe is Rangers’ joint-top goalscorer, along with Morelos, in the Europa League, while Roofe has also scored as many as five more Premiership goals than Morelos so far during this campaign.
Is Roofe above Morelos in the Rangers striker pecking order?
With that in mind, perhaps there is something to Parks’ claim that Roofe is currently Rangers’ main man in attack, as you could certainly argue that he’s made a bigger impact in front of goal than Morelos for the Glasgow club this term.
