Rangers: Fans go in on James Tavernier after penalty mess in Betfred Cup final

It was a day to forget for Rangers as they went on to lose 1-0 in the Betfred Cup final against rivals Celtic.
The Gers had the chance to cancel out Christopher Jullien’s opener and go level when they were awarded a penalty just after the hour mark. However, Alfredo Morelos fluffed his lines as Fraser Forster saved his spot kick.
Funnily enough, though, the 23-year-old has not been exclusively blamed for the penalty miss. Following that disappointing moment in the game, fans have since taken to Twitter to criticise James Tavernier, who is usually Rangers’ penalty taker.
The Rangers captain, of course, has had his own troubles with penalties this season (something highlighted by the Daily Record). Nevertheless, supporters were surprised not to see him step up and take it and disappointed that he passed on the responsibility rather than shoulder it himself.
“Simply bottled it”, one supporter said. “Why isn’t Tavernier taking it?”, another questioned.
Take a look below…
