‘Scrap this move’, ‘Not happening’ – Man City fans deeply concerned by latest transfer update

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Sun that claims the reason the deal for Riyad Mahrez is yet to be completed concerns Patrick Roberts move in the opposite direction. Fans have been waiting eagerly for the Algerian to be announced as a City player and the sooner Roberts moves on the better.

Pep Guardiola has been looking at options on the wing to give the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane some respite. The pair both played around 50 games for City last season and if the club was to lose either of them to injury for a long period of time it would be a serious loss to the club, who only have the likes of Bernardo Silva covering. That’s where the Leicester City winger comes in.

Mahrez, who won the PFA Player of the Year award for the 2015/16 season, has been keen for a move for a while now. In the January transfer window, the winger’s move to Manchester City fell through when the Foxes hierarchy started demanding a fee of over £70 million, something that Guardiola and the City board weren’t prepared to pay. The club cantered on to win the Premier League and now, six months later, it looks like Mahrez will get his move.

However, the latest report from The Sun proves that the transfer is far from straight-forward, and the supporters are beginning to express their concern over Roberts’ willingness to move on Twitter. Plenty of the supporters have lambasted Roberts for his perceived lack of desire to prove himself in the Premier League, and some fans have even suggested that they should turn their attention towards alternative targets.
